Effects of Neem on Insect Pests

Verifiable scientific research has shown that Neem extracts influence the physiology, biology and behaviour of over 400 different types of insect pests harmful to man, animals and crops, including some insects that are now resistant to modern chemical insecticides. Neem is also proven to be completely non-toxic to the natural predators of these pests, whether insect or animal, eg., spiders, bees, wasps, ladybirds, birds, bats etc., so often essential to the ecosystem for pollination, seed distribution, fertilization etc.

These plant pests are divided into various indentifiable groups

Orthoptera, Homoptera, Thysanoptera, Coeloptera, Lepidoptera, Diptera, HymenopteraAs well as these groups Neem affects snails, nematodes (threadworms), plant viruses and fungi (see agricultural links)

For a list of Specific see Table of Pest Control Uses.

Neem extract added to the soil kills harmful threadworms (Nematodes), repels and kills slugs and snails and fixes Nitrogen in the soil. It increases the earthworm population by 25-40% in one growing season. Many types of mites, plant viruses and fungi soon disappear without the toxic residues normally associated with common chemical solutions.
